You NEED A Team To Grow Your Health Business! (Here's Exactly How & Why...)

Affiliate Disclosure

If you are still trying to be CEO, head of marketing, HR, and tech support for your health business, this episode is your intervention. I’m breaking down exactly why “doing it yourself” is not noble, it is expensive, exhausting, and keeping you small.

In this solo episode, I share a real conversation with a physician who left a group setting, moved to a new state, and tried to launch a direct primary care practice from scratch while also attempting to learn funnels, email marketing, SEO, and automations on her own. I refused to hand her a list of tactics, not because I don’t care, but because she didn’t have the foundation, the offer, or the team to actually execute.

What you will hear in this episode is a straight shot of truth about what it really takes to grow a modern health business: being coachable, thinking like a visionary, and building the right team around you so you can finally get off the stairs and take the elevator.

Why This Matters to You

Buried under admin, content, and random marketing tasks on top of patient care? You are not imagining it: trying to be the head of marketing for your own clinic when you have no marketing background is painful and wildly inefficient.

You might be asking for new funnel strategies, email templates, or ad hacks when the real problem is that there is no one on your team whose actual job is to own growth. No head of marketing, no true “number two,” no one tracking the numbers and helping you make smart decisions.

In the episode, I walk through how most health and wellness businesses are missing a few key roles: a head of marketing, a person responsible for hiring and culture, and the tech/automation support that makes digital offers run smoothly. Without those pieces, you stay stuck in DIY purgatory, even if you are brilliant clinically.

You will also hear me challenge you to figure out your route: are you bringing in a fractional strategist, a W2 leader, a consultant for a season, or upskilling yourself just enough to manage a trusted team? The point is not that you never touch marketing again; the point is that you stop being the entire marketing department.

Ultimately, this episode matters because your income and impact are capped when you insist on taking the stairs. When you align with the right strategist, build the right support, and stay in your lane as a visionary health CEO, you move faster, you burn out less, and your business finally starts to feel like the thing you dreamed about when you left the traditional model.

Actionable Advice

  • Audit your current role
Grab a piece of paper and write down every “marketing” task you are currently doing: social posts, email campaigns, SEO, ad decisions, funnels, launches. Then ask yourself honestly: which of these actually require a strategist, not the CEO?

  • Define your dream “number two”
Write out who your ideal head of marketing or right-hand growth partner would be. What would they own? How would they think? Are they fractional, full-time, or a six-month “fairy” who comes in, builds the plan, bosses you around, and then floats on? Getting this on paper is the first step to hiring them.

  • Map the roles you are missing
List the key seats you need for growth: marketing strategy, HR/people, tech and automation, and key vendors (SEO, ads, email, etc.). You may not hire them all at once, but you need to know what a complete team looks like so you can build toward it instead of guessing every quarter.

  • Choose your “elevator” option
Decide how you are going to stop taking the stairs. Is it hiring a strategist, enrolling in a course because you already have a marketing mind, or finally committing to a fractional CMO? Pick a path and commit instead of dabbling in random tactics that never add up to a plan.

  • Stay coachable and stay in your lane
Your real job is to be the visionary above the business: designing programs, delivering excellent care, and making leadership decisions. Let people who actually know the KPIs, click-through rates, and growth levers guide the marketing so you can stop arguing with data you don’t understand.

In this episode, I share the story of a physician who left a group practice, moved to a new state, and tried to build her direct primary care practice alone, without a team or a clear offer. She came to me asking for funnels and email tactics, but what she really needed was a strategist to lay out the framework, help her assemble the right support, and give her an elevator instead of another flight of stairs. Her situation is a mirror for so many health CEOs, and I use it to show you what to do differently from day one.
